Castle: new captain talks precinct relationships

•08/17/2011 • Leave a Comment

We have already heard a good bit when it comes to some of the dynamics moving forward on the the upcoming season of “Castle” — and now, we are getting set to learn a little bit more.

In a new interview with TVLine, new cast member Penny Johnson Jerald (“24”) explains how her new character of Victoria “Iron” Gates is going to change-up life in the New York precinct that has been so kind to Nathan Fillion’s title character in the past — primarily by making him as small of a presence as possible:

“My side of it is, ‘Why is he here?’ He’s not a police officer; he’s an irritant. But it’s all those wonderful little nuances that make for great television.

“… Even believing and wishing he wasn’t there is pretty much diminishing the presence of someone. She doesn’t see his value yet, but perhaps [it] will come to light. And even then, maybe she won’t even [admit] it!”

This relationship does come as a far cry compared to what Castle had going on with Captain Montgomery, who seemed to be far more ready and willing to accept his role as a part of the force after he and Beckett solved a number of cases together.

How long do you think it will take Castle to accept some good graces from this captain?

Bones: Meet the Jeffersonian’s New Squintern!

There will be a new face at the Jeffersonian Institute on Bones this season.

No Ordinary Family and Gossip Girl star Luke Kleintank has been cast in the potentially recurring role of young genius Finn Abernathy, TVGuide.com has learned. Described as brilliant, sweet and a bit rough around the edges, Finn earned his college degree at 16. However, his braininess is balanced with redneck charm. (Think Doogie Howser with Larry the Cable Guy’s accent.)

As we first reported, Cam (Tamara Taylor) happily welcomes Finn and his smarts to the Jeffersonian, but Caroline (Patricia Belcher) is concerned about Finn’s checkered past and what that means for the safety of the rest of the Jeffersonian’s staff. Let’s just say some of Finn’s fancy book-lernin’ was achieved inside a juvenile detention center. We wonder which side of the argument mom-to-be Dr. Brennan (Emily Deschanel) will come down on.

Finn fills the void left by former squintern Vincent Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright), who was tragically killed by sniper Jacob Broadsky (Arnold Vosloo) in Season 6’s penultimate episode.

Glee: the Mean Girls are Coming

Since by now half of the Cheerios are members of New Directions, Glee is enrolling a new crop of Mean Girls! Who’s who?

* Sugar is… well, she’s basically RHNJ’s Danielle Staub, only in high school. Affluent, self-confident and a godawful singer.

* Sheila, a modern-day Joan Jett, actually hasher own pack of Blackhearts and the tats to go with ’em.

But that’s not all. As production on Season 3 gets underway next week, I’m hearing that the show is also on the lookout for a new linebacker, a gigantosaur by the name of Bubba. (What did you expect, a Kevin?) As previously revealed at Comic-Con, Bubba will introduced as Mercedes’ new beau, whom she started dating over the summer.

Also, sixtysomething actresses will be passing through to audition for the role of Nancy Bletheim, a geometry teacher who thinks the arts are for… well, anywhere but in school.

Any ideas about who should play the parts? Hit the comments!

Castle: a mysterious woman catches Castle’s eye in season 4

Relationships they are a-changin’! Castle and Beckett won’t be the only duo having to deal with some shifts in the ‘ship status quo next season.

Molly Quinn (Alexis) recently told TV Line her character will open Season 3 with some bad blood between herself and another female lead she’s usually quite fond of. Any guesses? No, it’s not grandmother Martha — it’s Beckett!

Like any teenager (or person, really), the ginger-haired cutie will feel very shaken up after the shooting at Monty’s funeral, and kind of blame Beckett for her father being in harm’s way all the time. But don’t think Castle won’t intervene when his two leading ladies start to squabble!

“There’s definitely going to be some words and heat between Alexis, Castle, and Kate Beckett,” says Molly Quinn, adding that although Alexis “still respects” her elder, “at the same time [it’s like], ‘This isn’t your life. This isn’t your dad. You don’t understand.’”

Another thing nobody will understand? Someone new is about to catch Castle’s eye!

Producers are looking to cast a “gorgeous, sexy sophisticated art insurance investigator” who may or may not become a recurring character. Miss Investigator Lady and Castle will be attracted to each other like magnets from the get-go. But there’s a catch: This new lady is hiding something, and we assume it ain’t pretty.

And finally, what about the budding ‘ship between Lanie and Esposito that we only got glimpses into last year? Good(ish) news for Esplanie fans: Jon Huertas (Esposito) says we’ll see them “Interacting as a couple” more. But sadly, producers want the couple to “go all the way” — which may include a break up. Boo!

And Huertas teases Ryan and Jenny’s upcoming nuptials may have something to do with the split. “It might make Lanie or Esposito say, ‘Maybe I want to get married’ — and maybe the other person doesn’t,” he says.

Well, if those two are confused about their romantic futures, they won’t be alone. At least, not metaphorically.
